The Sober Warrior Programme

You stopped drinking…

…what now?

You beat the demon drink, check you out, you’re a sober warrior. But you’re starting to wonder, what’s the next mission…

Stopping is easy

It’s staying stopped that’s the trick

You know you don’t want to go back to drinking, you’re enjoying being free way too much. I mean, you’re loving having more energy, less stress, better sex and generally being free of that feeling that there are horrendous problems around every corner.

You don’t want to trade that in for booze-soaked hell. But…

You’re starting to think that there might be something more.

I’ll help you to think your way into the life you want, the life you need, the life you deserve. And once you do you can claim some of these amazing free gifts:

Better than all of that, doing the work will ensure you get further and further from the things that made you drink in the past.

Do you want to change the world?

Great because that’s what I am all about. I only work with people who want to make a difference.

It’s not that I don’t want to help everyone, I kinda do, but I only have 24 hours a day. From that time I have to remove the non-negotiables like sleep, exercise, great books, live music, strong coffee, playing with my daughter, playing with my wife (if she’ll let me) and in line skating.

This leaves me with precious little time to change the world.

And that is why I only help people to step into their full power if they want to make the world a better place. If you want to get your ships together so you can sell more unnecessary plastic crap to people who don’t need it, then stop reading now.

If you want to write a novel, press an album, cure cancer, start a charity or found one of those tech startups that actually provides the world with something more useful than an app for tracking your toenail growth then you are in the right place.

This is the house for the rebels, the creatives, the bringers of joy, the iconoclasts, the kind of guys who see the world and think “wow, that’s lame, we can do so much better than that”.

Good job brother. But before you go out and change the world you might need to do a bit of work on yourself.

Do you think stopping drinking is enough, Duncan?

No, no I don’t.

I think you need to grab life by the scruff of the neck and shout in its face. I think you need to become a Sober Warrior.

Why my method works

My method works. And it’ll work for you.

It works because it’s based on an assumption. I assume that you are actually pretty good at what you do. That you are successful, dare I say it, high functioning.

It’s alcohol that’s bringing you down, stopping you from being all you can be. If that’s true then let me introduce you to the three key pillars of my technique: Science, Experience and Humour.

Science

I trained with the Easyway clinic, the world’s most successful stop smoking service. I’ve also studied at Cornell University, the Chartered Management Institute and a windowless room in Peterborough. I’ve read a ton of books and interviewed a bunch of experts. And I did it all for one reason.

So you don’t have to.

I’ve understood the science for you, you can sit back, safe in the knowledge that what I say is based on proper, white coat research done by dead clever people. But best of all I’ll explain it to you in terms you understand, I promise I will never use the phrase “Neuron hyperpolarization”.

Useful stuff. In language you can understand.

Experience

I’ve been there, I’ve done that, I went from smoking two packs a day, drinking two bottles a night and eating fried chicken like it was some sort of snack, to being in the best shape of my life. I can spend hours on my in-line skates screwing about and doing tricks and I only fall over once or twice, every ten minutes.

Trust me, I’ve been there. I stopped drinking, started living and created the life I want. And so can you because…

…we ain’t so different.

Humour

What is life without a bit of fun? You stopped drinking, you didn’t stop living, you didn’t stop arsing about. I promise you my sessions won’t be dull. They get serious, they get heavy but I always try to crowbar in at least one knob gag.

Because, after all, what’s the point in being alive if you can’t crack a decent dick joke?

But don’t take my word for it

If you want to jump out of bed and embrace the world, then Duncan is the man for you

You have three options:

I hate to say it, but I’ve seen way too many people stop drinking, do nothing and end up drinking again.

Please don’t let that be you.

#1 Do nothing

That ain’t going to work.

#2 Tough it out on your own

Sure, you’re clever, sure you can research, sure all the information you need is out there on the internet. So, you could find the life you want on your own. You could – but how long is that going to take? How much wasted effort is that going to involve?

You are in uncharted territory. You are not sure where you’re going or how to get there.

What you need is a map.

#3 Let me show you a better way

I know this stuff, I know how to help you create a life that is so far from booze that you’ll never even dream of going back.

Let me show you the map.

Because asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It’s the opposite, it shows you ain’t done yet. It shows that you ain’t giving up. It shows that you are strong enough to get through this shit.

You’ve got to fight for the things you hold dear and what do all good fighters have? A coach, a trainer, a corner man.

You want to be a sober warrior? I’ll be your sober drill sergeant. And I won’t even shout that much!

You always make the decisions

I don’t compel people to do stuff, I’ve never waterboarded anyone, that’s not how I roll. We talk stuff through, you make a choice. I support you in that choice. It’s simple.

But let me lay it on thick like tomato ketchup, doing nothing or struggling on are not going to work. If you’ve read this far you know that you need to start moving in the right direction. The good news is I have a bike and I’m happy to give you a backie.

Course outline

There are three distinct changes that you need to make and they revolve around three areas: Look. Prioritise. Execute.

Look

Lives are big things. They have a lot of moving parts. Some bits are loud and seem to need constant attention. Some bits are quiet, and it seems like ignoring them won’t matter too much.

What you need to do is look at your life and think about which areas really need work. I tend to focus on four areas:

  • Strong body
  • Ordered mind
  • Big heart
  • Examined self

Once we’ve looked at your life then you need to prioritise.

Prioritise

It’s easy to get massively overwhelmed when you look at everything. It’s sort of tempting to say, “that’s way too much work, let’s sack it off and have a beer.” Clearly that’s not a great idea so we prioritise.

We identify your number one problem and work out how to solve it.

That’s when you are ready to move to the next phase.

Execute

Once you’ve got a plan, I’ll help you go for it.

Which is great, you’ll solve your number one problem. Brilliant news.

The bad news is that once you have, you’ll end up with a new number one problem. So, I’ll help you solve that. Once you’ve solved that you’ll have a new number one problem. I’ll help you solve that and… you get where I’m going here.

The programme is designed to help you to keep on doing it: Look, Prioritise, Execute.

Repeat.

Limited availability

We only allow a handful of people to join the rogramme. That’s why we only accept cause-fighters, planet-lovers, change-makers and risk-takers.

If you aren’t suitable you won’t be joining, even if you offer me a suitcase full of cash. Sorry but I’ve got to focus on the people I can help the mos
